Loved Asti’s comment that we need to invest in digital storage in the same way we invest in physical storage. #NZCCM2019

1) #nzccm2019 @astisherring, first Australasian time based media Conservator, shares her experience with video and sound art. Important to recognize this work goes beyond preserving tools used to perform the piece such as the computers, projectors and speakers. Takeaways:

Lynn Campbell sharing her experience attending the IIC-Nordic conference in Iceland. Highlighted the difference between those who had been through a disaster and those that hadn’t and unrealistic expectations. Also noted lack of speakers from Italy, Japan and Turkey. #NZCCM2019 pic.twitter.com/pOifQSKsYr

I am continually humbled by the diversity and professional efforts by conservators in #newzealand. NZ continually punches above its weight and demonstrates that it is not a country that operates in the past but is a leader in pushing the boundaries of practice. #NZCCM2019

#nzccm2019 Linda Waters from @Te_Papa highlighted the ways conservators can still allow interaction with an artwork but also encourage preservation. Best part was that they measured the incidences of damage or touching to the artwork which spiked on school holidays!

#NZCCM2019 Annette McKone from @Auckartgal gave overview of painted window panes from a church. Shocking deterioration in the form of fading and peeling of paint layers. Did analysis in house, @AucklandUni and @GCIConservation. Result was a consolidation of the paint, display.
