Articheck proud to support sustainable climate strategies in museums
The Ki Futures program ‘Getting Climate Control Under Control’ – an initiative helping museums adopt smarter, more sustainable environmental practices – was recently featured in The Art Newspaper.
The article explores a growing shift in the museum world: rethinking rigid temperature and humidity protocols in favour of more sustainable, evidence-based approaches.
By updating these practices, museums have the opportunity to reduce their energy consumption by 24-82%.
We’re proud to share that Articheck is now a core partner in this groundbreaking program. Every new Ki Futures cohort will use Articheck to:
- Monitor object response to updated climate controls
- Streamline reporting and document condition with accuracy and ease
- Support data-driven climate decisions that promote long-term sustainability
- Introduce virtual couriering and digital loan management systems
The program was launched in May 2023 in partnership with the Association of Danish Museums (ODM). During the 18-month pilot, ten member museums from ODM worked on safely adjusting their climate settings and implementing energy efficiency strategies – many building on the work they already had in place – and in some cases cutting energy use by up to 50%.
Museums also participated in a workshop about how digital tools, such as Articheck’s Transit Hub, can help safely monitor objects in transit remotely, reducing the need for in-person couriers and cutting carbon emissions.
As awareness grows across the sector, more institutions are recognising that sustainable practices go hand in hand with excellent collection care. The ‘Getting Climate Control Under Control’ program offers a model for how climate strategies benefit both cultural heritage and the planet.
At Articheck, we’re committed to supporting museums in this shift, helping them choose sustainable solutions and lead the way for the wider cultural sector.
